Emma cover

Kazuo Ishiguro published "The Buried Giant" last March 3, venturing into Camelot territory. Although his latest novel received mixed reviews, bibliophiles would look forward to the rest of the year. In Young-adult fiction, Pittacus Lore will release the sixth book in the Lorien Legacies series on September 1. Rick Riordan fans are excited about the Magnum Chase and the Gods of Asgard series, as the author will bring Norse mythology to the current generation of young readers. If Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't enough, then how about those who are hoping to see Percy Jackson and the other young demigods once more. (Is Magnum Chase related to Annabeth Chase? It might be non-coincidental, but we don't have to wait long to find out the answer.) And there's more.

Stephen King manages to publish at least one novel every year, and his fans can't wait for his latest to come out. "Finders Keepers", which will be available in bookshelves on June 2, might allude to evocation. The author of "The Tommyknockers" might have something else in mind, though. On the other hand, followers of Harper Lee have marked their calendars on July 14. "Go Set the Watchman", the sequel to "To Kill a Mockingbird", will see an adult Scout Finch revisiting her childhood home. Most of the characters will be back, including Scout's father, Atticus Finch.

Anniversaries

Three literary classics will reach new milestones this year.

The 150th year of publication of "Alice's Adventires in Wonderland" will be celebrated on July 4. Expect events to highlight this occasion, and there can be no better way than to prepare a costume party. As for what makes this children's book special, you only need to anticipate Disney's live-action "Through the Looking-Glass". This is the continuation of Alice's strange journey into the world of anthropomorphic animals. The huge success of the original, with Mia Wasikowska in the titular role, is good enough. As for Lewis Carroll's fascinating story, kids can only recall the oddball creatures.

Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" will mark its centennial year of publication this October. The novella is still being taught in universities. The tale of a working man who transforms into a monstrous-like insect may allude to man's stark outlook towards society. It might be his perceived insignificance and the struggles that yield unfavorable results. It can also be the author himself.

December 23 is the 200th anniversary of "Emma". Jane Austen might not fancy the music video of "Fancy", which is Iggy Azalea's homage to Amy Heckerling's iconic film, "Clueless". It's a modern update of the novel, about a heiress who loves to be a matchmaker to her friends. But she's unaware of a certain custom on young women like her.

And let's roll out the awards

There's a long list of literary recognitions to watch out, with the Nobel Prize (in Literature) in front. If you can't wait for the results, then read your favorite book. One more time.
