You need a routine that would keep you from missing the deadline to your essays, as well as help you prepare for your examinations. There will be more papers and tests in the coming weeks, which make you think about sleeping late - and getting up late. But you can't. And there's a way to do it.

It's important for college students to keep a routine during this time of the year, where there's little time left for other things. It would be a different with Literature students, who must keep up with the reading list. It’s a challenging task that can lead to sleeping late and getting up late. You can avoid it if you follow a schedule and getting good advice from older (Literature) students who manage to make it to the end. You would need your morning coffee first.

Seize the Day: Aspects of a Student's Life that Needs Changing

Drink two glasses of water when you wake up. Your body needs to re-hydrate itself especially after a night of beer and pizza or chips. It should keep you alert, but a third glass would be needed before breakfast. You must drink an hour before your first meal of the day. There are many things to accomplish in a single hour.

Exercise really gets you. Late fall may not motivate you to get up early especially if you read to sleep. You rather know the exploits of Wind-Gone-Mad in China (and how he outsmart two bandits who want to rule Mongolia), the details of which would make you wonder about your last holiday with your family. It won't be the right time, as there are literary genres that you need to know. Besides, all you need is 20 minutes of exercising. Climbing up a stairway would be good enough.

Take a cold shower. It might be a silly thing to bath in cold water during this time of the year, yet it should make you wide awake in the morning. You can't afford to be sleepy, if not yawning, during your (morning) lecture. And hot water would open the pores in your skin. It might lead to cold.

Eat a proper breakfast. Cereal and milk seem right, but you might be lethargic before the clock strikes noon. An apple or two should keep you full until lunch hour. There's nothing wrong about a bar of chocolate, but too much sugar could result to heavy eyes. You can share it with a course mate if you only need a bite or two.

Get some sunlight afterward. Light would tell your body that it must be wide awake during the morning, but there would be gray days. You could wake up to rainfall or snow as well. If this is the case, turn on the light in your room. Don't remain lying in bed especially if you have a pending deadline. Stretch your limbs before you exercise.

You must have a fun activity to do every morning. Taking pictures should put you in a good mood, but don't be too obsessed about the details (or your mobile phone for that matter). If photography is not your thing, you must be reading a book that is not part of your reading list. Don't be guilty about it, if not think that this would keep you from reading the classics. It should help you read the classics! Social media and online games could be counted as fun activities, but it would be addictive. If you can't do self-control, think of something else.

Prepare your routine in the evening. You can't expect to fall asleep right after you lie in your bed. What you do in the evening could help you sleep early and wake up early. Reading is the best option, and you might be lagging behind in your reading list. Don't try too hard to understand everything you read. (You can go back to it the next day.) Watching Netflix would be good on a Friday night. You're about to know why.

Strive for quality of your sleep. A good night's sleep would put you in good mood the following day. And you could think long and hard. Oversleeping is not bad especially if you have something to do in the early evening. Try to sleep seven hours a night, even if you don't like what you see in your event calendar. This is your chance to master the art of time management.

When You're Procrastinating

You notice your course mate’s grumpy face in the morning, and it could only be one thing. Procrastinating is not uncommon among students, and would happen to you sooner or later, Novels would take longer to finish than the first ones you read, which would prompt you to browse some pages. If you know the gist of the story and a theme or two, you would be fine. Researching would be another thing, though. It’s another case, but you must worry about it later. A great start to the day would be your immediate goal.
