It's hard to name the writer behind "Suicide Squad", probably the best thing from DC Comics. No one can imagine bad guys protecting the US government, as their story is a twisted version of American history. As the omnipresent narrator would put it, civilization is more than buildings. It's about attitude, and above all safety.

No one was surprised when Warner Bros. decided to adopt "Suicide Squad" to the big screen. Keep in mind that there are too many plots in a comic book, which can be complicated at times. Director David Ayer would keep the idea behind it, though. His "Suicide Squad" can be considered a huge gamble, as it has an August playdate. This is the final month of the blockbuster season, and Warner Bros. want big bucks. Not that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" didn't earn big, but it fell below studio expectations. The Man of Steel and the Cape Crusader didn't seem to fit in a gritty setting. They don't have the emotional baggage that could pack a wallop. In the case of the Suicide Squad, it would be perfect.

Why must you look for a copy of this comic series? Why look forward to Ayer's big-screen adaptation? What is the fuss behind the Suicide Squad? Let's enumerate it:

This is not your typical group. They are bad guys, and they can't be counted most of the time. Comic readers would lose count, even not remember the names of these ex-villains. It's hard to tell if they're getting tired of their errant ways, such that they yearn for normalcy. It can also be a case for adults who are looking for redemption. It's up to the readers to decide if they're getting old in this dirty game.

No one dares to question Amanda Waller. She doesn't have superpowers, and she's far from the sexy heroine who might be Batman's companion to a glitzy party. Amanda Waller is as plain and ordinary as you can see, with a lot of issues to deal later. (No surviving members of the family or the readers would believe so.) But she's tough as nails. She's too shrewd, which would intimidate the bad guys. And she handles the Suicide Squad. It's an unenviable job, not for the sensitive type and the ones with a faint heart. But she might be one of the most memorable female comic characters. The members of the Suicide Squad can kill her easily, but she manages to be a wild animal whisperer (if there's such a term for it). Moreover, she also has to deal with certain politicians. This leads to the next one (and you might be surprised).

The Suicide Squad is what American history is all about. Some would suspect that Americans are too superficial, but the writers behind this series would beg to disagree. Harry Truman created a special task force, its motives were pretty obvious to those who were following (American) politics. They disappeared from the public eye when the Communist witchhunt began. They turned into Mysterious Men. The name changed through the decades until it was called Suicide Squad. The writers may have thought of the past, and they saw something. Readers could agree to disagree, they also could take the series with a grain of salt.

Who would want to join the group? Anything could happen in the comic world, and the members of the Suicide Squad have seen it all. Stan Lee might have thought of something. After all, he created the Marvel Universe. But not Mrs. Waller and her task force, Don"t be surprised if Warner Bros. (and Ayer) thought of including Batman in the celluloid version. There may be an issue, which was their basis. But hardcore fans would think otherwise. These ex-villains were a league of their own. They could do the job, so they don't need Mr. Wayne.

The film version would give viewers a hint, but not the names. The members would come and go, as they were an unreliable lot. If politicking, discord, and enmity could happen to a group of good guys, then imagine how Mrs. Waller would handle a group of criminals. And failure might lead to the fall of the White House. Could America be a huge time bomb?

What do you think? You might want to watch the movie before getting a copy of your DC Comics. It should be Suicide Squad.
