New Year, New Decade, New Resolutions for College Students

Spring is around the corner, and you have given up on your New Year's Resolutions. Don't! Keep in mind that the first quarter of the new year is considered the beginning of the new decade, so you only need to look at your resolutions and make some revisions. It's not too late.

Bruce Cameron released "A Dog's Purpose" in 2010, about a dog reincarnating several times before he learned his true purpose. This bestseller may not appeal to your professors (for an essay topic), but you can learn several things from Toby's journey from a (young) feral dog to a puppy farm survivor to best bud to Ethan. Experience is the best teacher, which you should have figured out during your high school years. You were too distracted, though. Whether you're trying too hard to solve mathematical problems, if not come up with a scientific report, or let your mind wander on what Joseph Conrad has found in the Orient, which would be the basis for "Lord Jim", you should have a set of resolution that would enable you to manage the coursework better. Don't count on the day when it's decided to suspend lectures due to the coronavirus outbreak. (You've been living in the bubble for some time, which would be due to paper writing and tests. You may have been carried away by the news.) You could come up with a new set of resolutions, if not revise on an old one, before the start of a new season.

7 Ways to Make Your New Year, and New Decade, Yet

Be nicer. Smiling won't be enough, and politeness would get you to a certain point. You might not notice the frazzled nerves of your fellow students, still reeling from the deadlines and tests during the last few months. Some would try to hide it, assuring everyone that there's not any problem. Ask him (or her) about his (or her) day, if not week. You could invite your friend(s) to a night out, if not another Netflix marathon. It's better than spending hours on social media.

Set personal records. You don't have to be a varsity player to understand this one. You may not have missed a deadline for your assignment, but you have noticed the signs that your enthusiasm is wearing off. It's time to dig deeper, showing more resolve. And you would need it more. (Spring semester would be tougher or so they said.) Pressure could be a make-or-break case, so don't be afraid of it. This would prompt you to do the next one.

Step outside of your comfort zone. You have read, if not been told, that the younger generation has been pampered, such that they won't try harder (if the opportunity presents itself). You might have the right to be defensive about it, but you won't know your true worth until you make an attempt. Tertiary education would lay the foundations of what you could do later, and it's not to be taken lightly. There's nothing wrong about living in a moment, but the deadlines should give you an idea of what to expect after leaving university. In other words, discomfort may prompt you to spend more time in bed, if not watch another show for an hour. Look at past lessons instead. Check out the list of books that your professors recommended for you. And pay attention to the remaining weeks (or months) in your planner. You can sleep early as often as possible, as well as engage in exercising (or walking at the least). It should put you in a good mood (while studying or writing your assignment).

Eat fewer carbs. You would have difficulty in studying, if not writing essays, if you don't keep an eye on your food intake. Too many carbs mean too much sugar, which would be fine if you're leading an active lifestyle. However, the demanding nature of the coursework would force you to spend more time on a seat, reading or writing. Lots of fruits and veggies should do.

Find new members for your group, if not make more friends. The cure to any mental problem is to be around familiar faces. It's hard to tell that your new buddies would become lifelong friends, but it's too early to think about it. Enjoy the moment on this one, and don't expect too much.

Spend less. It's the hardest thing that you would ever have to do, but this had nothing to do with a song that you keep on hearing from the hallway.

Be authentic. You won't be judged expect on what you have written on your essays or how you have come up with your own set of narrative writing topics. And there's no need to explain to anyone. You can make an exception to your tutor, if not those who would mean something to you. Think about it.

Random Goals and Exploring New Opportunities

Your other resolutions could include partying (or attending fewer parties), also drinking less alcohol, so you would avoid being a completely cold turkey. If these resolutions should help you become more mindful and less stressed, do it. Getting over that discomfort could take some time, and adjustment won't be fun at some point. It must be a gradual process. Treat yourself after such small steps. Traveling all over the USA seems exciting, and your parents may not have set foot in a wilderness recreation area like Yellowstone. You have a reason to keep your resolve.
