Wish List for Thanksgiving

You have an entire season to wait for Thanksgiving. Almost. It still seems like an eternity and a day, as you frown on the papers you must do during the coming weeks. You're getting sick and tired of beer, which tastes good when you need a break. And looking at the colored leaves doesn't excite you anymore. You want to get away, but money is another thing. (It's actually a problem these last few weeks.) You have to be patient, and at the same time, write a wish list.

It's not silly at all. In fact, this is not a child's game. You're no longer a minor, which means you can do something to make your wishes come true. And it will only be a matter of weeks. Grab your pen and paper, if not look into the (computer) screen. Time to think:

One more party. You had a blast last Saturday, and you still haven't enough of it. Alas, you must pass up the next one (next weekend), as you have a deadline to beat. And you expect not to attend another one. (More deadlines are coming. You've never been this lucky.) Maybe you can make it to the one before Thanksgiving. It will be special, as it will be a holiday afterwards. It will be family time, and you really miss them. You notice your waistline, so it will be better to skip the beer.

A new recipe. You just saw an image of marshmallow sweet potato, wondering if your mother can prepare it. Isn't turkey enough for you? Have you forgotten the work she's been doing for years? It takes three days to thaw it. And she makes sure you'll truly love the pan gravy. Maybe she'll consider the sausage stuffing. You're getting excited, while holding the phone. Your mother tried the stuffing many seasons ago, but you didn't like it. (You were careful not to show your displeasure, getting your fill instead.) Maybe the second time's lucky.

A wintry Thanksgiving. Unless you're planning for a skiing holiday in Vail, then don't wish for freezing temperature during Thanksgiving. You can feel the cold already. (If you're from Florida, then you must be the lucky one.) And do you want to shovel the snow? The last time you do it, you swear it will be the last. Hold your tongue.

You stop, as something comes up. An idea for your next paper. You can finish your wish list later this week. But don't think about Christmas. There will be a sale on Thanksgiving, and you don't want to miss it.
