Count Your Calories on Labor Day

Steak

Not long ago, equality draws out solemn faces. Many recall the struggle against racism. The likes of Martin Luther King, Jr. risk their lives for a cause they strongly believe. It cost their lives, but their ideals are still remembered. But those days seem like they didn't exist at all. (Buy a sweetener to find out why.)

Nothing is better than a day off from work. Only a handful can say that they really love their job. It's anything but fun - and that's the awful truth. One must have a positive attitude to be able to go through a working day without getting stressed. There are times when we need support, which is where the family (or friend) comes in. Whoever suggest the idea that Labor Day must be observed with steak, hot dog, and chicken is a genius. They must be grilled. Outdoor cooking can be enjoyable, and it's not hard to picture children getting impatient with their share.

Have you wonder how Labor Day originate? Don't be ashamed if you're clueless. You're not the only one. Blame it on the mouth-watering aroma of the steak being grilled outside.

Monday Bloody Monday

Labor Day is held on the first Monday of September. It is significant for many reasons. The last days of summer, which means those who haven't gone out and enjoy the sun will have their final chance. In North America, this is the time of the year when the blockbuster season is coming to the end. (If you can't wait for those movies that will be talked about during the awards season, then this is the time to rejoice. No more films by Michael Bay.) Many don't know that Grover Cleveland, the twenty-second President of the United States, signed a legislation for this holiday to appease the disenchanted workers during his term.

Labor Day is supposed to reminisce the difficulties our forefathers have been through and the fracas resulting from it. No one knows when and where. Many will point to the Pullman Strike, which happens on the summer of 1894. But there are others who insist that it's a decade earlier. If there are labor historians around.

Sit back and relax

Labor Day is supposed to make us aware of the importance of a day off. Knowing the history of our labor force makes us realize that life is not that bad at all. We should be appreciative, but time let us forget some things.

"From assembly lines to classrooms, across highways and steel mills, American workers strengthen the foundation of our country and demonstrate that our economy grows best from the middle out,” President Barack Obama says in his formal holiday proclamation.

It turns out that the contemporary era is more complicated. Blame it on modern technology. Point your finger on popular culture. Tell anyone (who cares) that education is not that important nowadays. All that is left is your steak. But you become alarmed when you recognize the burnt smell.
