The Fate of Nine
Pittacus Lore made an announcement a few months ago. The sixth book in the Lorien Legacies series would be called "The Fate of Ten". This was supposed to be the final book (in the series), but there would be a seventh. It will be out next year. As for the authors, it turned out to be a collaborative effort of a small group of writers, aside from James Frey.
"The Fate of Ten" will be published on September 1, but fans of this young-adult (YA) series don't have to wait too long. Pittacus Lore released many novellas between books; one narrated the demise of Number One, and how her spirit lived on and influenced Andrakkus Sutekh, commander of the Mogadorian forces. The other provided details on the whereabouts of Number Six, of how she and her Cêpan moved around North America to avoid the enemy. The same thing with Number Eight, in a different setting. The authors didn't forget the (high school) friends of Number Four, who chose to join him in this perilous journey.
So what can fans expect from this penultimate book? There are still lots of issues that need to be explained. "The Revenge of Seven" seemed to end on a hopeful note, about the powers of Lorien spreading all over Earth. As Sam figured out, the remaining descendants of the Lorien race may have more than the help they can hope for.
This is how "The Fate of Ten" might turn out:
Number Four will be the new hero. These teenagers, who would assume the legacies and inheritance of the Loric Garde, have different powers. This won't make one stronger than the other one, or the rest, but Number Four was born to lead. He seemed capable, even willing to make the tough decisions. He was even sucked into Ella's bad dreams, falling into a coma-like state and coming out of it.
What becomes of Number Eight? Many fans didn't see it coming. Eight, who had that devil-may-care attitude, died suddenly and unexpectedly. It turned out that the strange carvings inside the cave in Northern India were prophetic warnings. Was he gone for good? No one could tell the meaning of the final set of carvings.
How about Number Five? He was the traitor in the group, and his actions in "The Revenge of Seven" saw how he wanted atonement. Some may saw him spiraled down, but it would be hard to tell if he was working with the Mogadorians.
Ella will play an important part. This young girl, who seemed fragile and innocent, turned out to have a pivotal role to play. This was what John saw in her dreams. Can she change her destiny?
Will Earth be the new Lorien? The home that John and his friends wanted to see may be gone, but they suspect that their ancestors have done something to ensure their planet lives on. Can it be rebuild in Earth? We only have five months to wait. Let's keep our fingers crossed that another novella will come out between now and the date of publication.
